David Donald Field Studies Base

On the Isle of Purbeck, the same as DorkCamp09 - http://www.dorsetadventure.co.uk Lovely location and facilities, a bit on the small side.

Iain S: I would be up for doing this again. Worked well in the good weather. Might be a bit small if the weather was bad.....

Jane M. I loved this place for the walks...the sea...oh yes and the electronics!

Pete E: Really liked the place, was nice not worry about disturbing anyone and amazing scenery.

Isabel: I really loved it here, remember those big blue skies...

Katiushka: I think the kitchen here was lovely and functional...the food amazing!!!! I would love to have a room this time please!!!!

When we asked about numbers last year, they allowed us a few extras and also mentioned that they were going to review the limits. maybe worth asking again ? We could have got quite a lot more tents out there.

California Barn / Campsite

alexm: Here's a nearby "california campsite" which could fit more people in by the looks: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=7923

Looks pretty good. There is a studio / meeting room with capacity for about 50 (squeezed) and the barn can also be used allowing for 2 simultaneous workshops. More if outside / in a tent etc. Camping field has only 4 toilets + water, but barn has 3 bathrooms and studio has another. Studio is NOT included in cost but is approx. 1/2 barn cost (as it sleeps 5). 12 pitch limitation is only really due to limited facilities for camping-only visitors : with the barn facilities it's up to us how we manage them. Alex - the owner, Karen, had apparently had email from you and had looked at the Dorkbot site. Seemed to like the idea as she's also involved with various art groups.

Website Location Availability

Compared with David Donald venue : Same area, so enthusiasm about location should apply much the same. Probably a similar size but owner is willing to allow more people. Furnished more as holiday cottage than as a study centre, perhaps easier to cause accidental damage. Overall, looks more flexible outdoors and a little less flexible indoors. If David Donald would allow more people there would be little to choose between them.

Tom's field

This is another camping site in Langton Matravers, about midway between the two sites above. It's not directly useful as it looks too big to block-book and has a no-fires policy, but could make a useful overflow site if necessary.

Steve Pizzey there could be interested.

Herstmonceaux would be brill but I can't see any indication of campsite/washing/cooking etc. How would it work - is there space we could use to set that up ? (adriang)

Anywhere north of London!

love, Dorkbot Alba.

North of London would be great, any suggestions? We need somewhere with outdoor camping, indoor space for wet weather activities, kitchen, showers & electricity for around 40-100 dorks. Love dorkbotlondon.

Ideas from last time

There were some good suggestions last time, but they needed more organisation - e.g. some way of working under cover. Maybe with a bit more time to organise we could look at those again ?

I think one of them was Etherley Farm

alexm says: yes it's all still over on DorkCamp09_campsite_search. Etherley were happy to have us but I sensed a feeling of unease at camping on a working farm from some, and the lack of kitchen etc was a problem too. Other places (like youth hostels) had already been booked up as I remember so we'd better get cracking...
